UNIVERSITY PARK Pa. September 17, 2004 - Michele Rigby tallied two goals, leading the Penn State field hockey team (3-4) to a 6-0 win over Lafayette (2-4). In a one-sided game, the Nittany Lions allowed only two shots by the Leopards while recording an astounding 36 of their own.

Megan Akstin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) stood strong once again in the cage, tallying her second-straight shutout and third of the year, while recording one save.

The two teams battled through torrential downpours and finished the last 12 minutes of the contest in Holuba Hall. Natalie Berrena (State College, Pa.) scored the first goal after dribbling right down the center of the Leopards' defense at the 11:58 mark in the first half. Shaun Banta then scored her fourth goal of the season less than two minutes later off a pass from Rigby. Legel and Rigby traded goals for the next four scores to provide the final four scores.

In all, Rigby had five points, a new career high, and 11 shots, which was almost twice her previous career high of six. The win was the most lopsided victory since the team defeated Saint Joseph's - the Lions' next opponent - 12-1 last year The Nittany Lions face Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia on Sunday at 12 p.m. and return home Sept. 28 for a 6 p.m. matchup vs. Princeton.
