UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State senior goalkeeper Kylie Licata (Mountain Top, Pa.) earned Big Ten Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week honors, while back Cori Conley (Oak Park, Ill.) was named the conference's Freshman of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
Recognized for the second time in her career, Licata had a stellar weekend in the cage. First, she made a career-high nine saves in a 2-1 win over No. 9 Old Dominion. Then, she made six saves in a shutout performance against No. 6 Virginia.
Conley earned the first two starts of her Penn State career against the Lady Monarchs and the Cavaliers. She helped lead a Nittany Lion defense that held the Old Dominion to just one goal. She was also a key component of a unit that shut out Virginia, marking the first time the Cavaliers were held scoreless in a match since 2011. She is the first Nittany Lion to receive freshman of the week honors since senior Laura Gebhart (Mount Joy, Pa.) was recognized on Nov. 1, 2011.
Penn State continues on the road on Saturday, Sept. 6, taking on Connecticut at noon. The squad also visits Quinnipiac on Sunday, Sept. 7 at noon.
