State College, Pa., May 23, 2002 - Penn State field hockey head coach Charlene Morett announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent. Becky Allahand, Chase Bacon and Sara Cahill will join the Nittany Lions for the upcoming season. Allahand hails from the Keystone State. A native of Newtown, Pa., she played four years of varsity field hockey at Council Rock High School. Named Bucks County Courier Times 2001 Player of the Year, she was also named first team all-state and was picked all-Suburban One League four straight years. A defender, she helped her team to three league championships and to the District 1 AAA championships four times. She was also named the team's Most Valuable Player twice. Alland was also a key member of the Pennsylvania State Championship soccer squad. Bacon comes to Penn State from Urbana High School in Frederick, Md. She is a two-time Frederick News Post first team honoree while also garnering first team all-Central Maryland Conference honors in 2000. Playing at the midfield or forward positions, Bacon has participated with the Under 16 Futures Program and the Junior Olympics. She also excelled on the lacrosse field, earning Frederick News Post Player of the Year honors in 2001. Cahill is a native of Virginia Beach, Va. She is a two-time all-state selection and has participated at the National Futures Tournament three times. Playing at Kempsfield High School, she helped her team to the Virginia State championship crown. Cahill has also collected all-district and all-region first team honors. Penn State went 12-7 overall in 2001 and 3-3 in the Big Ten. The Lions will be looking to make its 20th appearance in the NCAA Tournament after missing out on a postseason bid for the first time in 20 years after the 2001 campaign. --LIONS--
