BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, April 24, 2000 - Penn State field hockey players Maegan Galie (Collegeville, Pa.) and Jill Martz (Dalmatia, Pa.) helped the U.S. Under-21 team to a second-place finish at last week's Pan American Junior Championships.
Galie, who will be Penn State's top returning scorer this fall, scored a first-half goal in a 4-1 United States win over Chile that lifted the American team into the championship game. The U.S. squad fell to defending champion Argentina 5-0 in the final.
Martz tallied a penalty stroke goal to help the U.S. team defeat Canada 5-2 earlier in the tournament. She played in every game for the Lady Lions last season as a freshman.
With the runner-up showing, the U.S. earned a spot in next year's Junior World Cup.
