Six Field Hockey Players Named to National Academic Squad

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., February 22, 2001 - Six Penn State field hockey players were named to this year's NFHCA Division I National Academic Team. Of the Big Ten school's, Penn State and Iowa had the most players selected, followed by Michigan State (5), Michigan and Indiana tied with 3 and Northwestern (1). Ohio State did not have any players named to the all-academic team.

Adding to her long list of postseason accolades, senior all-American Traci Anselmo (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) was named to the national academic team. Helping Penn State to a second-place finish in the Big Ten, she was the conference's Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, while leading the team in scoring.

Also selected were senior Maegan Galie (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton), and juniors Kate Bender (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), Kelly Concini (Danville, Pa./Danville), Janelle Long (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and Meredith Shulzitski (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton).

The Lady Lions were 17-6 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten in 2000.
