Former Penn State Field Hockey Coach Gillian Rattray to be Inducted Into NFHCA Hall of Fame

Former Nittany Lion head coach Gillian Rattray will be inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Assocation Hall of Fame on Jan. 8. Current Lions head coach Char Morett (above) will introduce Rattray at the induction luncheon.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. January 7, 2005 ?? Former Penn State field hockey head coach Gillian Rattray will be inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Jan. 8 in a ceremony at the Westin Hotel in Providence, R.I. She will be introduced b y Penn State field hockey coach Charlene Morett, who succeeded Rattray as Penn State??s head coach in 1986.

Rattray won two national championships while at the Nittany Lions?? helm in 1980 and 1981. The legendary coach led Penn State from 1974 to 1986, compiling a 176-49-21 record in her 13-year career.

She coached 11 All-Americans during her tenure, including Morett, the program??s only three-time All-American. She also produced five Olympians during her reign, and two Broderick Award national players of the year.

Rattray is officially part of the Class of 2004, and is joined by current Sweet Briar head coach Jennifer Crispen, former Stanford head coach Sheryl Johnson and former Ithaca College head coach Doris Kostrinsky.
