UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., January 6, 2004 - Penn State Field Hockey Head Coach Char Morett has been chosen as one of five coaches or former coaches to be inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2003. She will be inducted at an official awards luncheon Jan. 10, 2004 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore.

Morett, who just completed her 17th year at Penn State, has led the Nittany Lions to 16 NCAA appearances, four Final Four appearances (1990, 1991, 1993 and 2002) and one National Championship appearance (2002). She has been named Mideast Region Coach of the Year four times (1990, 1991, 1993 and 2000), and was also named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 1989 and Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1998. She is one of only three Division-I coaches with 300 wins, and currently has 320 victories in her coaching tenure, which began in 1984 at Boston College, where she spent three years, before joining Penn State in 1987.

She has consistently developed top players and top teams, producing 29 first-team All-Americans. Five of her players have been named overall Big Ten Player of the Year while she has also coached four players named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. This past season three of her players were named to the STX/NFHCA All-America team, including seniors Heather Conroy (first team), Timarie Legel (second team) and Neilye Stoner (third team). This year's squad went 18-7 before losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and finished the year ranked No. 7 in the STX/NFHCA poll.

Morett was also a star player for the Nittany Lions from 1975-1978, and was the program's first-ever two-time All-American. She was the captain of the 1978 team that finished the regular season undefeated, and netted 50 goals over her career.
