State College, Pa. - The Penn State Women's Fencing team went 4-1 at this weekend's Princeton dual meets. The team defeated Princeton and North Carolina, Vassar, and NYU. They were defeated by Harvard. The Nittany Lions defeated Princeton by a score of 18-9. In the saber and foil divisions, Penn State defeated Princeton 5-4. The epee play against Princeton was strong, coming out and winning that division 8-1. Penn State defeated North Carolina in the second match. The women defeated UNC by a score of 20-7. Penn State dominated two of the three categories. The Nittany Lions swept UNC in epee 9-0. In the foil, Penn State had no problem as well, winning that division 7-2. They fell short, 5-4, in the saber division. Penn State also had no problem with Vassar, defeating them by a score of 23-4. The Nittany Lions dominated all three categories, sweeping Vassar 9-0 in the foil, and winning 7-2 in the saber and the foil. The women's toughest opponent and lone defeat came against Harvard, losing by a score of 16-11. Penn State's lone defeat in that match came in the epee play with a 5-4 victory. The Nittany Lions final victory came against NYU, winning by a score of 21-6. The women once again dominated in the epee winning 8-1, and won the saber division with a score of 7-2. Penn State will head to the Olympic trials in Richmond next weekend.
