Anastasia Ferdman Finishes First in Women's Epee at Penn State Garret Open

State College, Pa. - Sophomore Jessica Anastasia Ferdman (Maalot, Israel) placed first in the women's epee division at the Penn State Garret Open on Saturday. Ferdman topped a total of 54 fencers in the epee division. She defeated Kayley French of Northwestern in the final.
Penn State found most of their success in the epee division. Sophomore Keri Byerts (Webster, N.Y.) also finished ninth in the epee division. Sophomore Maria Joao Reis (Sao Paulo, Brazil) finished 13th in the epee division as well.
In the foil division, Ohio State's Lindsa Knauer took first place. She defeated Penn State Junior Allison Glasser (Piedmont, Calif.) in the final. Glasser took second place overall in the divison.
Ohio State also took control in the Saber division as well. The Buckeyes had three fencers finish in the top four including Siobhan Byrne and Eillen Brench taking first and second place. Falencia Miller of Ohio State took fourth place as well. The notable finisher for Penn State was sophomore Jessica-Kim Danh (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) taking 12th place.
Penn State men's fencing will compete Sunday at University Park in foil, epee and saber competition.
