Penn State Men's Fencing Team Defeats All in Epee and Foil at the Temple Open

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. ¨C November 9, 2004 ¨C This past Sunday, the men¡¯s fencing team defeated all in both epee and foil at the Temple Open held in McGonigle Hall.

After not fencing for a season, junior Christopher Miller (Salina, Kan.), excelled in his performance and took first place in the foil competition. Senior Ryan Wagner (Garden City, N.J.) also placed as a champion in the epee competition.

In the epee championship, University of Penn¡¯s Michael Sanders was defeated by Wagner while Brandeis¡¯s Kai Keller and UNC¡¯s Benton Heimsath both tied third in the epee competition.

Penn¡¯s Michael Galligan was defeated in foil for the win while Penn State¡¯s Jacob Clark, a national qualifier (Waukesha, Wisc.) placed third.

Winner of the saber competition was Haverford¡¯s Christ Flanders who defeated Ben White from University of Massachusetts. John Press of Penn and William Gardner-Mims tied third place in saber.
