PHILADELPHIA, Pa. ¨C November 6, 2005 ¨C Penn State freshman Joseph Milliron (Lake Oswego, Ore.) defeated Matthew Kolasa in the menĄŻs saber final on the second day of action at the 26th Temple Open. As Penn StateĄŻs lone fencer in the saber division, Milliron topped a field of 65 fencers and won his first collegiate tournament.
The Penn State menĄŻs fencing team saw great success with the foil weapon. Penn State fielded five fencers in the foil division, and all placed in the top 15.
Penn State sophomore Sergio Hey-Colon (Caguas, Puerto Rico) placed fifth and freshman Janos Gasparin (Grapevine, Tex.) took sixth. Freshmen Adeniyi Williams (Merrimack, N.H.) finished seventh and Emerson DiNapoli (Los Gatos, Calif.) placed eighth. Fellow freshman Nicholas Heimann (Philadelphia, Pa.) rounded out the list, finishing 15th.
Ben Wieder of the University of Pennsylvania beat DukeĄŻs Ted Lauzen in the finals of menĄŻs epee. Penn State junior Nevin King (State College, Pa.) finished seventh and sophomore Dennis Kraft (Rector, Pa.) took 11th.
The Penn State menĄŻs and womenĄŻs fencing teams will next hit the strips on Saturday, December 3 at home against the University of North Carolina, New York University, Princeton University, Harvard University, and Rutgers University.
