State College, Pa. - June 13, 2002 - Penn State fencer Stephanie Eim (Hendersonville, Tenn.) was named to the 2001-02 Verizon Academic All-America University Division Women's At-Large First Team, capping off a stellar career that includes four All-America performances and three team National Championships.

Eim is the sixth Penn State student-athlete this year to be named Academic All-America. Penn State currently has the third-highest total of academic All-Americans among all Division I schools. Overall, Penn State has had 98 Academic All-Americans over the last 37 years, including the six this season.

A senior on this year's 2002 NCAA Fencing National Champion, Eim was a four-time All-American for head coach Emmanuil Kaidanov. A two-time national runner-up, Eim was honored as the 2001 NCAA Outstanding Fencer and was a multiple regional champ. Over the course of four seasons as a starter with the Lion fencers, Eim posted a 147-14 overall record (including a superb 41-1 mark this season) in the epee. She was national runner-up as well. Eim graduated from Penn State with a 3.73 grade point average as a management major and recently received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Voting for the Verizon Academic All-America team is conducted by the 1,800 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible, an athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00.
