Fencing Team Moves Up to Second Place After Second Day of NCAA Championships
MADISON, N.J.; March 23, 2007 - The Penn State fencing teams continued their hunt for their 10th national title today in the final rounds of the men's competition. After finishing day one tied for third in team standings, the performances by the men today have moved Penn State into second place. The strongest performance came from freshman Nicholas Chinman (Boulder, Colo.) who finished the championship in fifth place overall in the foil division. His final record was 17-6. Fellow teammate, junior Jeffrey Chang (Hong Kong, China) finished eighth in the foil division. He had a final bout record of 13-10. In men's epee, freshman Steffan Launer (Neuweiler, Germany) and junior captain Arthur Urman (Maalot, Israel) performed well with fifth and sixth place finishes, respectively. Launer and Urman both had final bout records of 15-8. In the men's saber division, junior Franz Boghicev (Dormagen, Germany) is in eighth place with a final bout record of 15-8. Senior teammate Ian Farr (Portland, Ore.) finished ninth at 14-9. The NCAA Fencing Championships continue tomorrow at Drew University with the first four rounds of the women's competition.
