Fencers Fare Well at Notre Dame Duals
State College, Pa. - January 29, 2005 - The Penn State fencing teams faired well at the Notre Dame Duals in South Bend, Ind., in action ending late Saturday night. The No. 2 Nittany Lion men's team went 5-0, including a win over top-ranked Ohio State. The No. 3 Lady Lions went 3-2. The men's team, led by senior Nonpatat Panchan (Bangkok, Thailand) opened the duals with a 15-12 win over No. 4 Notre Dame. The showdown with No. 1 Ohio State followed and the Lions claimed an impressive 15-12 win over the Buckeyes. Penn State then beat Cal-State Fullerton (23-4), Wayne State (22-5) and Detroit (23-4) to close out day one 5-0. The Nittany Lion men improve to 12-0 on the season. The women's team opened the first day with a 19-8 win over No. 6 Northwestern before falling 16-11 to No. 2 Notre Dame and 14-13 to No. 1 Ohio State. Penn State then downed Cal-State Fullerton (22-5) and Wayne State (21-6) to close out day one 3-2. The Lady Lions improve to 10-2 on the season.
