Penn State Fencers Look to Sweep at Princeton This Weekend
University Park, Pa.-January 20, 2009: After strong weekends at both Vassar and the Olympic trials, Penn State men and women fencers look to capitalize in Princeton. Freshman men and women have been looking strong and will try to continue their streak. Along with their impressive wins at the Olympic trials, both Monica Aksamit (Matawan, N.J.) and Miles Chamley-Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.) went undefeated at Vassar over a month ago. They will look to continue their records this weekend in Princeton. Freshman Nina Westman (Kalmar, Sweden) did extremely well at both Vassar and the Olympic trials and like Aksamit and Chamley-Watson she is looking to continue her success for the Penn State women. Other freshmen include, Michael El-Saleh (Houston, Texas), Christopher Cheney (White Bluff, Tenn.), and Oliver Valdes (Southlake, Texas). All will be looking to stand out this weekend. Senior and Captain James Moody (Denver, Colo.) came out with a 9th place victory in Louisville. Along with Moody fellow senior, who was also at the Olympic trials, Janos Gasparin (Grapevine, Texas), will be looking for a win in Princeton. Following the duals at Princeton this weekend Penn State fencers will be on the road again January 31st at Northwestern.
