UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s basketball head coach Coquese Washington announced on Friday (Dec. 1) the addition of Kayleigh Semion (Dunmore, Pa.) to the 2017-18 roster as a walk-on.

Semion, a junior, has served as a team manager for the last season and a half and competed as a member of the club basketball team for the past two years. Her family is no stranger to the Blue and White, either, as her sister, Meredith, was a part of the Touch of Blue majorettes during her time on campus.

An eight-time letterwinner at Dunmore High School, Semion excelled on the basketball court and the track, earning four varsity letters in each sport. A member of the National Honor Society, she was also active in the local community and earned the 2014-15 Dunmore High School Female Student-Athlete of the Year award to cap her prep career.

For her career on the hardwood, she scored 1,323 points, grabbed 492 rebounds, added 364 assists and collected 348 steals in 116 games played. Started every game during her prep career and connected on 238 career 3-pointers.

Selected team captain as a senior, she averaged 13 points per game as a senior – knocking down 76 3-pointers – to earn a wealth of postseason honors. Along with earning team MVP during her senior season, Semion was a first-team All-Lackawanna Conference pick, a Scranton Times-Tribune All-Region and second-team All-State selection. Her efforts also earned her the Lackawanna Conference Player of the Year and Scranton Times-Tribune Northeast Pennsylvania Player of the Year distinction.

As a junior, she poured in 347, making 64 3-pointers, and helped the Bucks to the PIAA Class AA state semifinals. For her efforts as a junior, she was a first-team all-conference and Scranton Times-Tribune All-Region pick. During her first two varsity seasons, Semion garnered second-team all-conference laurels during each, scoring 301 and 274 points, respectively.
