UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Fans can watch the Penn State Lady Lion basketball team in action as they prepare for their quest for back-to-back Big Ten titles at a public open practice Saturday, Oct. 13 from 12-2 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. Doors will open at 11 and those attending the open practice are asked to enter through Gate B of the BJC.
Everyone in attendance will receive a 2012-13 Lady Lion Basketball schedule poster. Additionally, there will be airbrush tattoos on the concourse. Fans will also have the opportunity participate in contests during the event and all fans will have the opportunity to enter to win a grand prize.
The Lady Lions return four starters and are led by All-Americans Alex Bentley (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Maggie Lucas (Narberth, Pa.), who are both on the 2013 Wade Watch List for the nation's top women's basketball player after earning honorable mention All-America honors and first team All-Big Ten accolades a year ago. Bentley garnered WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honors after finishing in the Top 15 in the Big Ten in scoring (11th - 14.1), assists (4th - 4.7), steals (2nd - 3.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (7th - 1.4). She enters her senior season 15th on Penn State's career scoring chart (1,335), 12th in steals (216) and 10th in assists (455). Lucas was an Associated Press honorable mention All-American, finishing third in the Big Ten and 20th in the NCAA in scoring a season ago with a 19.5 average. She is just the third sophomore to reach the 1,000-point mark and is the 11th-fastest player in Big Ten history to accomplish the feat.
Penn State also returns starters Mia Nickson (Ashburn, Va.) and Nikki Greene (Diboll, Texas). Nickson was an honorable mention All-Big Ten choice last season after battling through injuries to average 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. She was also selected to the NCAA Tournament Kingston All-Region team after accounting for 19 points in the Sweet Sixteen loss to Connecticut. Greene claimed third team All-Big Ten accolades after finishing fourth in the conference in rebounding (7.8), fifth in blocks (1.4) and seventh in field goal percentage (.472).
