UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.; June 12, 2017 – Former Penn State standout and current Connecticut Sun guard Alex Bentley will represent Belarus at the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket Women’s Tournament. The event is a qualifier for the 2018 FIBA World Championships, which will be held in Spain.
Owning a dual passport, Bentley joins the Belarus National Team for the event for the first time, as she filed for and received a naturalized spot on the nation’s roster.
Bentley left Connecticut following its 85-77 win at San Antonio on June 3rd, a game she notched eight points, two assists and two steals. This season for the Sun, Bentley started all seven games for the Sun and averaged 8.4 points, .34 assists, 1.4 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game.
The tournament, which will be held in the Czech Republic from June 16-25, features 16 countries competing in four groups. It is a qualifier for the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, and an important stepping stone for national teams attempting to earn a spot in the Olympics.
