Centre County Commissioners Honor Lady Lions and the WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State Lady Lions (13-4, 5-2) were honored by the Centre County Board of Commissioners for their work in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer with a proclamation that the week of Jan. 18-24 shall be "Lady Lion Pink Zone Breast Cancer Awareness Week" in Centre County. The Lady Lions will host the Fourth Annual WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State on Sunday, Jan. 24 against Illinois at 1 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The presentation of the Proclamation was made at the Centre County Board of Directors meeting today in Bellefonte. Commissioners Jon W. Eich, Rich Rogers and Steve G. Dershem made the presentation to assistant coach Itoro Coleman, Mimi Barash Coppersmith, Dr. Nan Crouter and Aileen Galley.

The Pink Zone game can be seen on www.bigtennetwork.com and re-aired as a "Student U" broadcast on the Big Ten Network on Monday, Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. The first three Pink Zone events have raised more than $80,000 for breast cancer awareness. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The Pink Zone game will feature a survivor celebration at halftime, as well as the world premiere of the "We Can Be Strong" video. The first 2,000 fans will receive pink Lady Lion Basketball water bottle. There will be a silent auction on the concourse with several items available for bid, including Penn State sports memorabilia, professional sports memorabilia and other items. After the Pink Zone game on Jan. 24, the Lady Lions will hold a live jersey auction to sell their special Pink Zone jerseys to the highest bidder.

The Lady Lions are currently holding a Pink Zone online auction ion GoPSUsports.com that will run from Wednesday, Jan. 13 through Wednesday, Feb. 3. There is a variety of memorabilia and experiences available through the Pink Zone online auction, including a timeshare for anywhere in the world, Penn State football experience for the Michigan game and autographed memorabilia. The Lady Lions visit Wisconsin on Thursday at 8 p.m. (Eastern) before returning to the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday, Jan. 24 for the Fourth Annual WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State against Illinois at 1 p.m. Penn State will donate $2 from every single-game ticket sold to the Pink Zone to the fundraising cause. All Penn State students will receive buy one ticket, get one ticket free for the Illinois game with valid ID. Single-game tickets can be purchased by calling the Penn State ticket office at 814-865-5555.

The Lady Lions hold several camps throughout the summer. There is a Lady Lion Basketball Camp available for girls of all ages, ranging from shooting camp to elite camp.
