Penn State Lady Lion head coach Coquese Washington announced the addition of 6-2 transfer Mia Nickson (Ashburn, Va.) to the Lady Lion roster. Three former Penn State Lady Lions, Helen Darling, Kelly Mazzante and Tanisha Wright, are on opening day WNBA rosters as the season opens today. Penn State's three WNBAers are tied with Purdue for the most among Big Ten teams. Grant and Greene Invited to 2009 USA Basketball Trials
Junior Penn State women's basketball player Tyra Grant (Youngstown, Ohio) and future Lady Lion Nikki Greene (Diboll, Texas) each received invitations to the 2009 USA Basketball Trials, which will be held May 14-17 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Grant's invitation is to tryout for the World University Games team, while Greene will try to earn a spot on the U19 World Championship squad. Read More >>

The Lady Lions will once again join in the fight against breast cancer as they host WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State (formerly THINK PINK Day) on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. against Iowa. The women's basketball program has raised more than $50,000 in its first two Pink Zone events, raising more than $20,000 in 2006-07 and more than $30,000 in 2007-08. The Lady Lions will wear pink uniforms when they face the Hawkeyes in the Bryce Jordan Center and all fans are being asked to wear pink as well.

Many former Lady Lions have found success on the professional level. Penn State has had 11 players drafted in the WNBA and have had 10 players with successful WNBA careers. There are currently three Lady Lions in the WNBA, the most among Big Ten teams, including 2007 WNBA Champion Kelly Mazzante of the Phoenix Mercury, the San Antonio Silverstars's Helen Darling and Tanisha Wright of the Seattle Storm.
