Three Former Penn State Wrestlers to Compete at Olympic Trials




State College, Pa., June 21, 2000 - Penn State University will be represented by three former wrestlers in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials in Dallas, Texas, June 22-24 at Reunion Arena.

Kerry McCoy, two-time NCAA Champion, member of the U.S. National Team and reigning U.S. National Champion will be competing in the 286-pound class. McCoy also is a coaching assistant on the Nittany Lion staff. Glenn Pritzlaff,1999 NCAA Champion, faces grapplers within the 167.5-pound weight class.

Puerto Rico and Pan American champion Matt White will try to add another title under his belt in the 187.25-pound weight class.

Each wrestler will be in pursuit of three of the 16 berths on the US Olympic Team, which includes eight athletes in freestyle wrestling and the remaining eight in Greco-Roman style. All three wrestlers will be competing in the freestyle discipline.

Only the champion at each weight class qualifies for the U.S. National Team which will compete at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

The freestyle competition of the U.S. Olympic Trials will be televised by PAX TV (Ch. 16, AT&T Cable in the Centre Region) on a delayed basis from 9-11 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 1.
