Wrestling Adds Two to Recruiting List
University Park, Pa., June 7, 2000 - Penn State wrestling coach Troy Sunderland announced the addition of two more members to the Nittany Lions' 2000 recruiting class as Dave Heckard (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Jarrad Turner (Hudson, Ohio) will join the program. Heckard, projected to wrestle at 197 pounds, will enroll in graduate school at Penn State after receiving his bachelor's degree in secondary education/social studies this spring from Villanova University. Heckard played football for four years at Villanova and earned All-Conference honors in his senior season at linebacker. He will have one year of eligibility in wrestling to use at Penn State. Heckard was a standout high school wrestler at Cumberland Valley High School where he compiled a 111-17 career mark. He twice reached the PIAA championship final at 189 pounds and won the title in 1996 to complete a 35-1 senior campaign. Turner, projected to wrestle at 141 pounds, was a two-time state qualifier at Cuyahoga Valley Christian High School. He finished fifth in the National High School Open to earn All-America honors.
