Penn State tops conference in number of selections
State College, Pa., April 11, 2002 - The Penn State wrestling team had 11 men honored as Academic All-Big Ten selections when the conference released it's selections from the winter sports season. Honorees must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average or higher during the past school year. Penn State's 11 selections led all conference wrestling teams and was the most the Nittany Lion's have garnered since joining the conference in 1993. Three other school's tied for second with six selections each. Heading the list of selections for Penn State was senior Pete Mielnik (197) who posted a 3.53 GPA in administration of justice to earn his third-straight selection to the team. Also being honored for the second-straight year were sophomores Josh Moore (133) and Scott Moore (141) and junior Mark Becks (184). Heading up the list of first-time selections for Penn State were red-shirt freshman Dan Waters and James Woodall. Waters posted a 3.59 GPA in business administration, while Woodall posted a 3.56 in kinesiology. Other first-time selections included freshman Todd Brennan (174) and Jason Woodall (141) and sophomores Nate Pozniak (133), Adam Shepler (149) and Cliff Wonsettler (174).
