Albany, N.Y., March 23, 2002 - Junior co-captain Doc Vecchio (165) wrapped up his improbable run to All-America honors placing eighth Saturday at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Albany, N.Y.

Vecchio, who became Penn State's first All-American in two years Friday, fell 11-9 to No. 5 seed Josh Henson of Pennsylvania in the seventh place bout Saturday morning. The loss dropped Vecchio to 3-3 for the tournament, but wrapped up a stellar junior year in which he led the team with a 34-14 record.

Henson jumped out early in the bout posting a takedown and a two-point nearfall in the first period. Vecchio came storming back, however, posting two second period takedowns and an escape and takedown in the third. He had Henson on his heels but ran out of time to complete the comeback.

As a team, Penn State finished 35th with 13 team points. The Lions will return six of the team's seven NCAA qualifiers next year, including Vecchio who earned Penn State's143rd All-America honor. Three of those returners, Scott Moore (141), Nate Wachter (149) and Mark Becks (184) have two or more years of NCAA Tournament experience now under their belts.
