Freshman Wes Phipps is coming off a solid red-shirt season that saw him wrestle in five open tournaments and tally 13 wins. Phipps projects at 174 or 184 a year into his Penn State career.. Parents: Sandy and Ed Phipps -- Major: Division of Undergraduate Studies.

Lion Career
2012-13:
Red-shirt season...went 13-9 in open tournaments...2-2 at Clarion Open on 11/4...3-3 at F&M Open on 1/5...2-1 at Hitchcock Open on 1/20...3-2 at Edinboro Open on 2/9...2-2 at National Collegiate Open on 2/24...collected a pin, a tech fall and three majors during the course of his red-shirt campaign.

High School/Personal:
Phipps was a four-time PIAA place winner and won a state title as a senior. Phipps placed fifth, third, second and first at Grove City High School. He left GCHS with a superb 144-14 record. 11 of those losses came as a high school freshman. Nationally, he was Freshman Nationals runner-up, placed third at Junior Nationals and on the Dapper Dan squad as well. Phipps was a four-year letterman at running back, was a first team All-State selection on the gridiron and was the PIAA District 10 Player of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year. He is the son of Sandy and Ed Phipps and is planning on majoring in Criminal Justice.
