Lions continue rugged road swing with two more ranked foes

Nick Ruggear emerged as the starter for Penn State during his true freshman campaign at 197. Last year, the Oxford native red-shirted and moved up to heavyweight where he went 8-3 as an unattached grappler in open tournaments. Ruggear now joins a talented group of big men vying for the starting spot at 285.

2010-11:
Went 5-1 to take third at 197 at Washington and Jefferson Open on 11/13, wrestling unattached....made Penn State dual meet debut with 12-1 major over Harvard's Bryan Panzano on 11/21, part of solid 2-1 showing at Sprawl and Brawl Duals...went 5-2 at the Nittany Lion Open on 12/5 to take seventh place...downed Lock Haven's Derrick Caldwell 8-6 on 12/12...went 1-2 at Southern Scuffle on 12/29...beat Pitt's Paul Sorentino in dual on 1/21, the lost to #6 Matt Powless of Indiana on 1/23...dropped 12-3 major to #10 Anthony Biondo on 2/6....went 0-2 at 197 in the 2011 Big Ten Championships on 3/5.

High School/Personal
Nick had a strong career at Oxford High School. He took third at PIAAs at 215 this past season and placed fifth at high school nationals earlier in the spring. The Oxford High School grad went 40-4 this past season for the Hornets and left Oxford with a 120-30 career record with 49 pins.
