Penn State Men's Volleyball to Host Hawaii
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Oct. 18, 2001 -- The Penn State men's volleyball team, 2001 NCAA semifinalists, will be hosting perennial powerhouse Hawaii Nov. 2-3 at Rec Hall. Game time is 7:30 p.m. for both nights. Tickets will be available at the door, $4 for adults, $2 for youth and senior citizens. Groups of 10 or more (including coaches and chaperones) under the age of 18 will be admitted for $1.
Hawaii ended last season ranked number three in the nation after finishing with a 19-7 record. The Warriors return 14 letterwinners from last year's squad and add two Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selections. Penn State returns 16 letterwinners from last year's 24-8 team, including all six starters and the primary libero, Ricky Mattei (San Juan, Puerto Rico), who was named Libero of the Year by Asics/Volleyball Magazine. First team All-America selection Jose Qui?ones (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) returns at the setter position and is joined by EIVA all-conference selections Carlos Guerra (junior outside hitter/Tamaulipus, Mexico), Zelimir Koljesar (junior opposite/Kitchener, Ontario), John Mills (senior middle hitter/Fresno, Calif.) and Zach Slenker (junior middle hitter/Dallastown, Pa.). The Nittany Lions will also be the host for the 2002 Men's Volleyball NCAA Championship, May 2-4.
