STATE COLLEGE, Pa., September 5, 2001 -- Penn State head men's volleyball coach Mark Pavlik served as Head of Delegation for the U.S men's volleyball team that brought home the gold from the World University Games in Bejing, China, this past week. It was the first-ever gold medal won by the men's volleyball World University Games team, and the first men's gold medal at any level since the 1988 Olympic champions. The gold-medal finish is the second World University Games medal of any color for the U.S. The previous best finish came 10 years ago with a silver medal at the 1991 Games in England.
