Anderson and Holt To Join 2006 Men¡¯s Volleyball Team
University Park, Pa., June 3, 2005 ¨C Matt Anderson (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Penn State men¡¯s volleyball team for the 2006 season, head coach Mark Pavlik announced. Both Anderson and Holt will also train with the USA Youth National Team this summer before enrolling at Penn State in the fall.
Anderson, a 6-7 middle and right side hitter, led his West Seneca West (N.Y.) High School squad to the New York Division I championship in 2004 with a 17-0 regular-season record. Also a member of the Eden Volleyball Club, Anderson¡¯s squad placed fifth at the 2004 Junior Olympic Nationals in the open division. ¡°We are excited to have Matt join our program,¡± said head coach Mark Pavlik. ¡°His size, mobility and arm-swing certainly give him a promising Nittany Lion future.¡± Holt, a 6-9 middle hitter, has led his Purcell Marian (Ohio) High School team to a 37-32 record through his first three years. During his junior year, Holt led the squad with 263 kills, 34 service aces, 19 solo blocks and 104 blocks assists. He is a three-time letterwinner in volleyball and a two-time honoree in soccer, also earning third team all-state honors in 2003-04. The same season, Holt picked up GCL Player of the Year accolades and was named to the Southwest Ohio All-Region First Team. A member of the Cincinnati Attack club team, Holt¡¯s squad was the Flight 1 champion at the 2004 Junior Olympic Nationals. ¡°We are pleased that Max has decided to become a Nittany Lion,¡± stated Pavlik. ¡°His size and strength give him a great base from which to start his collegiate career.
