NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Sold Out
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., May 3, 2002 - Reserved seat tickets for this weekend's NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship are sold out, with a limited number of standing room only tickets remaining for Saturday's title match. All 5,127 reserved seats in Penn State's Rec Hall were sold for Thursday night's semifinals. A sell out crowd of 5,259 saw top-seeded Pepperdine defeat No. 4 seed Ball State, 30-32, 30-19, 30-20, 33-31, and No. 2 seed Hawaii beat No. 3 seed Penn State, 30-26, 27-30, 35-33, 30-27. The Waves (29-4) and Warriors (23-8) will meet for the national championship Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. A limited number of standing room only tickets are available for Saturday's match. Standing room tickets are $6.00 and can be purchased today at the Jordan Center Ticket Office until 6:00 p.m. or Saturday at the Rec Hall ticket office starting at 1:00 p.m. Fans can call 814-865-5555 or 800-863-3336 today to purchase standing room tickets or for more information. Pepperdine has beaten Hawaii all three times the teams have met this season, all by identical 3-1 scores. The Waves will be playing in their ninth national championship match and seeking their fifth NCAA crown, with the last title coming in 1992. The Warriors will be playing in their second NCAA title match, having lost to UCLA in 1996 after beating Penn State in the semifinals. Coach Mark Pavlik's Nittany Lions won the EIVA Tournament and automatic NCAA Tournament berth for the 11th time in 12 years. Penn State finished the season with a 25-4 record.
