Men's Volleyball Earns No. 4 Seed in 2012 NCAA National Semifinals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Penn State men's volleyball team (23-5) has earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Championship. The Nittany Lions defeated George Mason, 3-1, for their 14th straight conference title on Saturday, April 28 to earn the automatic berth. Penn State will face No. 1 seed UC Irvine (24-5) who won the MPSF title with a 3-2 victory against Stanford.

The Anteaters and Nittany Lions will meet on Thursday, May 3 at 9 p.m. ET at USC's Galen Center in the first semifinal match. Second-seeded USC (23-5), who earned the at-large bid to the championship, takes on No. 3 seed Lewis (26-6) in the second semifinal match at 11 p.m. ET. The winners of each semifinal match will meet in the National Championship match on Saturday, May 5 at 10 p.m. ET in the Galen Center.

The national semifinals will not be aired on television, but will be streamed live on NCAA.com. The National Championship match will be broadcast live on ESPNU. For more information regarding the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship, please visit. USCTrojans.com and NCAA.com.

Penn State claimed its 14th consecutive Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) title Saturday night with a 3-1 win against George Mason (25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22). The Nittany Lions are making their 14th straight and 27th overall NCAA National Semifinal appearance, having captured the national championship title in 1994 and 2008.

The Nittany Lions and Anteaters are meeting for the first time this season. UC Irvine leads the series, 5-4. The teams last met at the Penn State Invitational on Feb. 4, 2011 with the Anteaters taking the win, 3-1.

Penn State last met USC on March 9 in Los Angeles with the Trojans earning a 3-0 sweep. The Trojans are 18-6 all-time versus the Nittany Lions. The teams previously met in 2010 in Penn State's season opener at the Hawaii Outrigger Invitational. USC won the match, 3-0.

The Nittany Lions are 16-8 all-time against Lewis. The squads last met on Jan. 21 with the Flyers winning, 3-1. Prior to that, Penn State had won eight straight matches against Lewis.
