No. 5 Penn State Men's Volleyball Finishes EIVA Season Undefeated
PRINCETON, N.J., April 13, 2002 - The fifth-ranked Penn State men's volleyball team defeated Princeton in three games (30-20, 30-17, 30-28) Saturday afternoon to finish the EIVA conference season a perfect 14-0 and stand at 22-3 overall. Juniors Zach Slenker (Dallastown, Pa.) and Carlos Guerra (Tamaulipus, Mexico) both finished with nine kills, leading the Lions to a .352 hitting percentage. Junior Zeljko Koljesar (Kitchener, Ontario) paced Penn State from behind the service line, chipping in two aces. Defensively for the Nittany Lions, sophomore libero Ricky Mattei (San Juan, Puerto Rico) tallied a season-high 13 digs in only two games. Guerra and sophomores Norm Keil (St. James, N.Y.) and Nate Matthews (Rochester, N.Y.) all recorded two blocks in the contest. Penn State awaits confirmation of their EIVA quarterfinal opponent, whom they will face on Saturday, April 20 at Rec Hall. The conference finals will also be held at Rec Hall on April 25 & 27, with the EIVA Champion advancing to the National Championship, taking place May 2 & 4, hosted by Penn State. --LIONS--
