Lipsitz Named EIVA Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 10, 2007 ¨C Penn State men¡¯s volleyball freshman middle hitter Max Lipsitz (Williamsville, N.Y.) has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, conference officials announced. It is the fourth conference accolade for the Nittany Lions his year, as Lipsitz was previously honored on March 27 and senior outside hitter Alex Gutor (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior setter Luke Murray (East Petersburg, Pa.) have also been recognized.

Lipsitz was nearly flawless in three matches last week, committing only six errors and finding the floor on more than 57% of his attacks. At No. 8 Ohio State on Wednesday, the freshman attacked at a .478 clip while falling just shy of his career mark with 14 kills, also setting a personal best with four service aces. Against East Stroudsburg he was perfect on all five of his attacks and added four blocks, while at George Mason on Saturday, Lipsitz helped the Nittany Lions finish the conference season undefeated with his career-best 16 kills on .565 hitting. For the week, Lipsitz provided 35 kills on .569 hitting with 10 total blocks.

Penn State takes to the road for the final regular-season weekend, traveling to Lewis on Friday, April 13 before taking on No. 11 Loyola-Chicago on Saturday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m.
