Lipsitz Named EIVA Player of the Week
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; March 27, 2007 - Penn State freshman middle hitter Max Lipsitz (Williamsville, N.Y.) has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Player of the Week, conference officials announced. It is the first career honor for Lipsitz and the third conference accolade for the Nittany Lions this year, as senior outside hitter Alex Gutor (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior setter Luke Murray (East Petersburg, Pa.) have also been honored.
Behind Lipsitz, the sixth-ranked Nittany Lions gained two important wins last weekend. On Friday at EIVA-foe Rutgers-Newark, the freshman set a new career high with 15 kills while attacking at a .700 clip, committing only one error in his 20 attacks. He tied his career best with three digs and added three blocks for a career-best point total of 16.5. On Saturday at home against MIVA-rival No. 11 IPFW, Lipsitz just missed his personal-best mark, racking up 13 kills on .545 hitting. He tallied a career-high three service aces and notched a personal-best eight blocks to set a new career-high with 20.0 total points.
For the weekend, Lipsitz averaged 3.11 kills per game on .619 hitting with 1.22 blocks per game and 4.06 points per game.
Penn State takes to the road Wednesday, traveling over the mountain to Huntingdon, Pa., to face EIVA-foe Juniata at 7:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions return home to host Princeton on Friday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the South Gym of Rec Hall before traveling to Loretto, Pa., to take on Saint Francis on Saturday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m.
