Men's Volleyball Falls, 3-2, at Loyola

Chicago, Ill. (March 22, 2002) ¨C The No. 14 Loyola University Chicago men¡¯s volleyball squad halted No. 5 Penn State¡¯s 16-match winning streak with a 3-2 (30-27, 26-30, 30-27, 22-30, 15-9) victory tonight in Alumni Gym. The win pushes the Ramblers¡¯ record to 15-5 overall this season and extends their winning streak to five matches.

The Nittany Lions came out strong in game one and took the early 2-1 lead. Penn State and Loyola hit an identical .250 hitting percentage in game one, while the Nittany Lions outkilled the Ramblers 15-13.

Game two was in the Nittany Lions favor as they hit .471 and held the Ramblers to a .313 hitting percentage. PSU outkilled LUC 20-14 and wrapped up game two with a kill by Jason Hawkins.

The lead changed six times in game three, however, it was the Ramblers that took control and shut down the Nittany Lions for a 2-1 lead going into the fourth game. Loyola outhit Penn State .321 to .273 and once again, it was Stoub who found the back of the floor to close the scoring in game three.

Penn State battled back in game four, but didn¡¯t take the lead until the scoreboard was in its favor, 14-13. The Nittany Lions shut down the Ramblers by holding them to a .036 hitting percentage, while hitting .483 themselves. Penn State outkilled the Ramblers 19-9 and tied the match 2-2 going into game five.
