Proper Named EIVA Player Of The Week
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Mar. 15, 2005 - Junior menĄŻs volleyball player Matt Proper (Guys Mills, Pa.) has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Player of the Week, league officials announced today. This is the third EIVA Player of the Week honor for Proper this season as he was also awarded on Feb 1 and Feb. 8.
Proper averaged 5.17 kills per game last week at No. 1 UCLA and at home against IPFW. The junior opposite connected on 31 of his 52 attempts with only five errors to hit .500 through the two matches and average 6.33 points per game. Versus the top-ranked Bruins, Proper posted 17 kills, including nine in the third game alone, to hit .433 on a team-high 30 swings with six digs and five blocks. On Friday against the Mastodons, Proper again led the team in attacks with 22, providing 14 kills and hitting .591 with two digs and four blocks. For the week, Proper also averaged 1.33 digs per game and 1.50 blocks per game. For the year, Proper is averaging a team-high 3.96 kills per game on .313 hitting with 0.28 service aces per game, 1.11 digs per game, 1.20 blocks per game and 4.89 points per game. Penn State hosts Mercyhurst on Friday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the main gym of Rec Hall before taking on Ball State on Saturday, March 19 in the South Gym of Rec Hall at 7:00 p.m. due to a conflict with the womenĄŻs gymnastics meet at the same time in the main gym.
