Holt Earns EIVA Player of the Week Honors
March 4, 2008
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's volleyball junior middle hitter Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Player of the Week for the third time this season, conference officials announced. It is also the seventh-honor for a Nittany Lion student-athlete this season.
Holt aided top-ranked Penn State to two more EIVA victories last weekend. Against East Stroudsburg, Holt recorded five kills without an error on eight swings to hit .625 in two games, adding in one ace and three blocks. The following night versus NJIT, Holt pounded 11 kills on .667 hitting with one ace and a match-high five blocks for a total of 14.5 points. For the weekend, Holt averaged 3.20 kills per game on .652 hitting - adding to his nation-leading .575 hitting percentage - also adding in service aces and eight blocks for 22.0 total points.
Penn State (18-0, 9-0 EIVA) needs one win to claim its 24th Eastern regular-season championship and its 13th under head coach Mark Pavlik, which would also be its 10th straight league title. The Nittany Lions travel to league opponents George Mason and Princeton this weekend, March 7-8, before heading to the West Coast to face NAIA-power Cal Baptist and No. 4 Long Beach State on March 14-15 in Long Beach, Calif.
The Nittany Lions return home to host No. 10 Ohio State and No. 9 Ball State on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29 at Rec Hall. The match with the Buckeyes will be a Code Blue event and will also be televised live on WPSU-TV. The contest with the Cardinals will be Senior Night, honoring seniors Luke Murray (East Petersburg, Pa.) and Travis Foltz (Westlake Village, Calif.) for their contributions to Penn State and the men's volleyball program. Admission is free to both contests.
