PRINCETON, N.J., March 2, 2003 - The Penn State men's volleyball team defeated Princeton in four games (27-30, 30-15, 30-23, 30-23) to improve to 12-3 on the year, 8-0 in the EIVA conference.

Senior Carlos Guerra (Tamaulipus, Mexico) posted a match-high 21 kills on 38 swings while junior Richard Schneider (Virginia Beach, Va.) pounded 17 kills on 24 attempts to hit .542 for the afternoon. Junior Keith Kowal (Reading, Pa.) chipped in 15 kills on 22 swings to hit .545 aiding Penn State in outhitting the Tigers .419 to .145.

Freshman setter Dan O'Dell (Rochester, N.Y.) directed the Penn State offense with 65 assists while junior Ricky Mattei (San Juan, Puerto Rico) posted a match-high 13 digs. The Nittany Lions outdug the Tigers 44 to 18.

Penn State also won the blocking battle, 12.0 to 9.0, led by junior Norm Keil (St. James, N.Y.) with five blocks to go along with his six kills. Kowal, Guerra and senior Zeljko Koljesar (Kitchener, Ontario) all added four blocks in the contest.
