Keil Named EIVA Division I Player of the Week
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., February 20, 2002 - Men's volleyball player Norm Keil (St. James, N.Y.) has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Division I Player of the Week after recording a perfect hitting percentage and helping the Nittany Lions to a 3-0 record last week. Only a sophomore, Keil set the Penn State rally-scoring era hitting percentage record in a three-game win over Rutgers-Newark on Feb. 16 when he tallied 10 kills on 10 attempts with no errors to hit 1.000 for the game. Keil also helped lead the Lions to two other victories during the week, recording three blocks and six kills on nine attempts (.556) in the three-game win over East Stroudsburg on Feb. 13, and four blocks and a .750 hitting percentage (6-0-8) in Penn State's three-game victory over NJIT on Feb. 15. For the season, Keil is hitting .531 and averaging 0.97 blocks per game. He also ranks fourth on the team in kills per game with 2.10. Penn State (11-2 overall, 6-0 EIVA Tait) travels to Bronxville, N.Y. and the campus of Concordia College on Sat., Feb. 23 to take on the Clippers. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. The Lions return home on Fri., March 1 when the Ohio State Buckeyes visit Happy Valley for a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
