Kowal Named EIVA Player of the Week For Second Time

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Feb. 12, 2004 - For the second time this season, junior men's volleyball player Keith Kowal (Reading, Pa.) has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Division I/II Player of the Week. Kowal averaged 5.09 points per game through three matches, including three-game wins over Juniata and Southern California and a five-game loss to UC San Diego.

Against the Eagles, Kowal attacked at a .867 clip, recording 13 kills on an errorless 15 swings while adding four blocks. The 6-5 middle hitter also posted impressive numbers against the Trojans, notching 12 kills, three blocks and hitting 647. In a five-game loss to UC San Diego, Kowal recorded a match-high 23 kills and also chipped in eight blocks for 27.5 points for the match.

For the year, Kowal is leading the team and the country in hitting percentage (.573). He tops the Penn State charts for kills per game with 4.13, good for 14th in the nation, and ranks first on the squad and 11th in the country in blocks per game with an average of 1.29.
