Mende piles up 28 kills, McLaren boasts double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs in semifinal loss
Penn State will face Harvard in the semifinals of the EIVA Championships at 5 p.m. on April 19 in Fairfax, Va.
Gear, McLaren and Mende each earn nod to the 2018 All-EIVA squads
2017 ( Redshirt Junior): Played in 123 sets this season... Posted three kills against No.2 UCLa (1/6)... Posted six kills and one assist against USC (1/7)... Recorded a career high 190 kills hitting .382 for the season... Hit a career high .875 in one match versus Fort Wayne (1/14) and in another match versus Harvard (4/08). Finished the season with 190 kills, 13 assists, 47 digs and 119 blocks
2016 (Redshirt Sophomore): Played in 67 of 108 sets... Recorded a career high 67 kills hitting .415 for the season... Added three assist, three service aces and 10 digs... Totaled 39 blocks... Helped Penn State complete 11 sweeps... Notched a match high eight kills against NJIT (4/2).
2015 (Redshirt freshman): Did not play in any matches.
2014 (Freshman): Redshirt season.
The two-time Gates-Chili High School MVP served as team captain his senior year ... Earned First Team All-League honors his junior and senior year and Second Team All-League accolades his sophomore year... A member of the Sectional All-Tournament Team both junior and senior year... An All-Greater Rochester (AGR) selection his senior year and an honorable mention in his junior year... Guided his team to the Division II Championship ... Earned the Scholar-Athlete his senior year... Played club for Victor Volleyball Club ... Earned two letters on the tennis team, garnering MVP honors his senior year.
Born Kevin Robert Gear on December 6, 1994 in Rochester, NY. ... Parents are Steven and Christine Gear ... Has one brother, Kyle, and one sister, Shelby... Majoring in engineering.... Sister, Shelby, plays volleyball at Lycoming College.
