Men's Tennis Sends Four to Knoxville for Tennessee Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis team will send four members of the squad to the Tennessee Invitational this weekend, Oct. 12-14, in Knoxville. The three-day invitational will include three singles draws of 32 and six doubles draws of 8 each. Representing the Nittany Lions will be Matt Barry(Lido Beach, N.Y.), Guanhua Chen(DaLian, China), C.J. Griffin(Portland, Mich.), and Chris Young(Melbourne, Australia).
Other schools sending players include Tennessee, Louisville, Chattanooga, Xavier, Tennessee Tech, Winthrop, Alcorn State, Southern Miss, Wright State, USC Upstate, Eastern Kentucky, Dayton, and Western Michigan.
Freshman Matt Barry has been impressive so far with a record of 6-2 after his first two invitationals. Last weekend, Barry went 3-1 at the UVa Fall Classic and earned fifth place in his draw.
Guanhua Chen picked up his first win of the fall last weekend at the UVa Fall Classic and reached the seventh place match for his draw.
Senior C.J. Griffin earned two wins at the UVa Fall Classic. He won two consolation matches and claimed third place in the consolation bracket in his draw.
Chris Young also picked up two wins at the UVa Fall Classic and earned seventh place in his draw.
Chen and Young will pair up to compete in doubles. Last weekend, they won two matches and claimed third place in their draw.
Barry and Griffin will also combine, seeking their first doubles win of the fall after dropping a pair of matches last weekend.
