Nittany Lions to Send Four Players to USTA Men's Tennis Invitational this Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis team will send four players to Flushing Meadows, N.Y. on Friday to compete in the USTA Men's Tennis Invitational this weekend. Junior Chris Hasyn (Lansdale, Pa.), sophomores Guanhua Chen (DaLian, China) and C.J. Griffin (Portland, Mich.), and freshman Harry Seaborn (North Salem, N.Y.) will all participate in the tournament.
Action will begin Friday morning and will continue through Sunday afternoon. The tournament will consist of 128 total players and nine singles flights. All action will take place at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on 32 courts (20 outdoor and 12 indoor).
The Nittany Lions are coming off a successful outing at the Farnsworth/Princeton Fall Invitational last weekend. Senior Eddie Bourchier (Hobart, Australia) was crowned the champion in Flight "A" singles and Flight "A" doubles, where he teamed up with junior Jason Lee (Melbourne, Australia). Junior Taylor Cohen (Philadelphia, Pa.) additionally won the Flight "B" singles title.
Chen picked up a total of five victories last weekend, three of which came in doubles action as he teamed up with Cohen. In singles action, the sophomore earned victories over Fairleigh Dickinson's Mark Hemy and St. John's Dusty Goldenberg. Chen and Cohen made it to the Flight "B" doubles final at Princeton.
Griffin opened the fall with a 2-2 record in singles action, notching victories over Binghamton's Evan Algier and Fairleigh Dickinson's Peter Skvarka. Hasyn enters this weekend looking for his first victory of the fall. Seaborn will be making his first ever-collegiate appearance this weekend.
Following this weekend, the Nittany Lions will have two weeks off before heading to the ITA Regional Championships on Oct. 14-18 in Charlottesville, Va. The squad will close the fall season at the Big Ten Singles tournament from Oct. 28-Nov. 1.
