UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., May 8, 2007 - The Penn State's men's tennis team recently inked Australian Edward Bourchier (Tasmania, Australia) to a National Letter of Intent, completing the fall recruiting class for the Nittany Lions.

"We are very excited that Eddie has decided to join the Penn State family," said head coach Todd Doebler. "We now feel that we have wrapped up a very successful recruiting class and we can't wait till the fall to get all four of them on campus."

Bourchier, from Open Learning Network Tasmania, is the fourth and final member of the 2007 Nittany Lion recruiting class. He comes to Penn State with an impressive resume in the Australian junior leagues. Bourchier held an individual high International Tennis Federation (ITF) juniors ranking of 102 in January of 2006. Also in January of 2006, Bourchier competed in the Australian Open Junior draw in Melbourne, where he knocked off Shuhei Uzawa (7-5, 6-4), who was ranked 39th in the ITF Juniors at the time.

His highest junior ranking in Australia Junior 18 & under was eighth. He also achieved a highest ranking of No. 2 in Australian Junior 17 & under. Bourchier boasts a career ITF singles record of 44-29. He also holds a 53-25 mark in ITF doubles play.

"Eddie is a very accomplished junior player, and I know his best tennis is ahead of him," said Doebler. "He has proven that he can compete at a high level and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do over the next four years here at Penn State."

Bourchier is the fourth member of Doebler's first recruiting class, which was rated 14th by The Tennis Recruiting Network. The Nittany Lions also received National Letters of Intent from Benji Kendall (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), Jake Toole (Sharon Mass.) and Jamie Cox (Acworth, Ga.) in the fall.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Los Angeles on Friday for a match in the first round of the NCAA Championships against No. 20 Pepperdine. Penn State will battle the Waves at Marks Stadium on the campus of USC at 1 p.m. (PT).
