Penn State Upsets Iowa in the First Round of The Big Ten Championships

The Penn State and Iowa match produced the second upset of day one of the Championship, as the 11th-seeded Nittany Lions upended the sixth-seeded Hawkeyes (7-11), 4-0.

PSU cruised in singles play after winning the doubles point. Freshman Mark Barry collected his 27th win of the season, downing Hunter Skogman 6-3, 6-1. Malcolm Scatliffe clinched the match for the Nittany Lions, defeating Pete Rose 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.

PSU (12-9) also received a boost in the lineup with the return of fresh-man Nate Emge to the No. 1 spot. Emge, who missed the last three duals with a knee injury, had a match point against Stuart Waters as Scatliffe closed out the match.
