State College, Pa., April 7, 2002 - On a beautiful afternoon, the Penn State men¡¯s tennis team defeated Robert Morris 7-0, at the Sarni Tennis Center. The victory saw solid play throughout the lineup. With the victory Penn State¡¯s record stands at 9-10 overall, and 1-5 in the Big Ten.

On a gorgeous spring day, Penn State used the momentum they gained from this past weekend to close out the non-conference match. At the No. 2 doubles the tandem of junior Michael Anderson (Canberra, Australia) and freshman Jim Crowell (Pittsburgh, Pa) won in dominating fashion 8-2, to seal the doubles point for the Nittany Lions. Coach Jan Bortner stated, ¡°This match was a great chance to get the freshman some big time experience. They don¡¯t get a lot of chances to show what their skill, but today they did a great job in doing so.¡±

At the No. 1 singles position senior Jamie Gresh (Barrington, R.I) won in impressive fashion 6-1, 6-1, and continues to stay red hot going into this weekend¡¯s home contests against No. 40 Purdue and Indiana University. ¡°Gresh continues to dominate his opponents and is becoming a premiere player in the nation,¡± Bortner remarked. Also, at the No. 3 singles sophomore Todd Stecko (Lake Forest, Ill.) returned to the lineup with a big victory, after missing two matches with back pain. Getting some quality time, freshman Josh Rubens (Wynnewood, Pa) took advantage of the opportunity and won big 6-0, 6-0 for Penn State.

The Nittany Lions look to use this momentum going into this weekend¡¯s Big Ten matches at the Sarni Tennis Center at 12 p.m. Coach Bortner exclaimed, ¡°We are going up against two outstanding Big Ten squads once again. No matter who you play in the Big Ten, every match is a war.¡±
