UNIVERSITY PARK, PA ¨C FEBRUARY 11, 2006 ¨C The Nittany Lion men¡¯s tennis team opened its spring season victorious Saturday, winning two matches at Penn State¡¯s Indoor Tennis Center.

Penn State squared off against St. Bonaventure Saturday morning, sweeping singles competition and suffering just one loss in doubles play for a 7-0 Penn State win. Just one Nittany Lion was forced into a three-game set, as Mark Barry (St. Charles, Ill.), Malcolm Scatliffe (San Bernardino, Calif.), Michael James (Clifton, Va.), Adam Slagter (Austin, Texas) and Brendan Lynch (North Potomac, Md.) posted two-set victories vs. the Bonnies.

¡°We¡¯re happy to get the first win of the season under our belts,¡± said Nittany Lion head coach Bill Potoczny. ¡°I think we did some good things but we know that there are some areas we need to improve on to be ready for upcoming matches.¡±

The Nittany Lions met Bloomsburg in the second match of the day, whom the Lions defeated 7-0, as well, sweeping doubles and singles competition completely.

Lynch, in his first year of collegiate competition, posted two 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles competition on the day for an extraordinary outing.

The Nittany Lions will return to action Wednesday, February 15 as they host Bucknell at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center in University Park, Pa. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
