UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s tennis team will face off against the Colgate Raiders this Saturday to open up its spring season. Play will take place Saturday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Indoor Tennis Center.
During the fall slate, Constant De La Bassetiere (Reims, France) and Christian Lakoseljac (Kings City, Ontario) won their respective flights at the Princeton Ivy Plus Invitational. The duo also won their doubles draw at the same tournament.
At the ITA Regionals, Christos Antonopoulos (Athens, Greece) advanced to the semi-finals of the main draw before eventually falling to the regional champion. Antonopoulos and Alp Sentay (Izmar, Turkey) had a strong run advancing to doubles semifinals.
The final tournament of the season was held in Williamsburg, Va. at the William and Mary Invitational. Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil), Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) and Matt Galush (Cary, NC) all went undefeated in the tournament.
The Nittany Lions boasted a successful fall season with a record of 46-32 in singles. Nine players finished with a fall record of .500 or better leaving the coaches confident heading into the upcoming weekend.
At the conclusion of the season, De La Bassetiere and Ben Lieb were named team captains.
“We are excited about Colgate coming to Happy Valley on Saturday,” said head coach Jeff Zinn. “It’s our first match of the year and it will be good to get some of the rust off from the break.”
