Penn State Men's Swimming Named As an Academic All-America Swimming Team

State College, Pa., April 12, 2000 - The Penn State men's swimming team was recognized for excellent academic performance during the Fall Semester of 1999 by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The Nittany Lions were named as a Academic All-America Swimming Team after achieving the 17th highest grade point average among the 37 Division I swimming programs which were honored. The squad was awarded with Excellent status for maintaining an overall team GPA of 3.02 during the recent fall semester.

The selection marks the second consecutive semester in which the men's swimming team has been recognized for academic excellence by the CSCAA. Last spring semester the squad received Commendable status after posting an overall team GPA of 2.83.

Penn State swam to an all-time best finish of 19th at the 2000 NCAA Championships after placing third overall at the 2000 Big Ten Championships.
