Men's Swimming to Kickoff NCAA Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Five members of the men's swimming team have arrived in College Station, Texas anticipating the start of the 2009 NCAA Men's Swimming at Diving Championships. Seniors Jason Goldner, Vincent Reydams and Patrick Schirk along with junior Basil Kaaki and freshman Brian Alden will compete in five individual events and two relays.

Competition begins each day at 1 p.m. ET with the preliminary rounds followed by the finals at 8 p.m. ET.

Current school record holder Vincent Reydams along with Brian Alden and Jason Goldner will compete in the 50 freestyle and team up with Basil Kaaki for the 200 freestyle relay today.

Tomorrow will see Patrick Schirk take to the water for the 100 backstroke as he defends his 200 backstroke title on Saturday. In addition, Reydams and Alden will take to the water on Saturday for the 100 freestyle competition and will be joined by Goldner and Kaaki for the 400 freestyle relay.

Last year, Penn State tied for 23rd at the NCAA Championships with 33 points spanning the 50 and 200 freestyles, the 100 and 200 backstrokes, the 200 IM and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

ESPN will be broadcasting the championships on tape delay. The men's championships will be televised on Wednesday, April 1 at 3 p.m. ET while the women's championships will be aired today on ESPN2 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
